Lawana Smith Herrmann 1947-2008

Lawana Smith Herrmann, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother (Omi), sister, and friend, age 60, died peacefully after a quick battle with Adeno Carcinoma on January 7, 2008 in West Jordan, Utah. Lawana was born on July 1, 1947 to Ethel Mills and Jennings Brian Smith as the youngest of five children. She attended Beaverhead County (Montana) High School and graduated from Bountiful (Utah) High School. She also graduated from Weber State University in Radiological Technology and continued throughout her life to expand her education and certifications in her profession. She married her sweetheart and best friend Sterling Edmund Herrmann Feb. 8, 1979 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised their three children in West Jordan, Utah. Lawana enjoyed reading, travel and treasure shopping at thrift stores. She was a wonderful cook and loved to bake. Lawana was always willing to help and be a friend to others. She influenced for good all those that she came in contact with. Her most cherished times were spent with her spouse, three children and five grandchildren. Lawana's greatest love was for the Gospel and for her Savior Jesus Christ, as was evident by her willingness to serve others. She is survived by her husband, Sterling E. Herrmann; daughter, Charayne (Anthony) Simister, West Jordan, Utah; sons, Garrett S. (Dora) Herrmann, Goodyear, Arizona; and Creighton A. Herrmann, Provo, Utah; grandchildren, Ruben (Veronica) Estrada, Salvador Orona, Elena Orona, Rylan Simister, and Alana Simister; siblings, Karma (John) Grismore, Yvonne (Jerry) Henderson, James (Jean) Smith, and Rex (Sandi) Smith. A viewing will be held Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at the LDS Heritage 2nd Ward located at 7645 S. 3200 W. West Jordan, Utah. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 at 12 Noon also at the LDS Heritage 2nd Ward. An additional viewing will be held prior to the Funeral Services at 11-11:45 a.m. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park located at 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. In lieu of flowers Lawana requested that donations be made to either the LDS Perpetual Education Fund (for Third World Countries) or LDS Humanitarian Aid.
