Walter "Craig" Johnson

1946 - 2017
Walter Craig Johnson, "Craig," passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017, in Bountiful, Utah at the age of 71. He was born January 24, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Walter Claudell & Ruby Wall Johnson. He was the second born of eight children and the oldest son. Craig attended Salt Lake City schools until he and his family moved to Bountiful in 1961.
He attended Bountiful High School where he met Alice Stahle. They married and settled in Bountiful, started a family and have lived there ever since. In 2013, Craig and Alice celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Craig began working for the Davis County School District at the age of 18. He started out as a custodian and quickly became head custodian for the new Meadowbrook Elementary School that opened in Bountiful in 1966. In 1975, Craig and Alice went back to school and attended Weber State College (now University) in Ogden. Soon they received their degrees in Elementary Education and began to teach. Craig transitioned from custodian to 5th grade teacher and remained at Meadowbrook until his retirement in 1999.

Craig enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and having friends and family visit the family's cabin in Wyoming. Back in the day he played softball for local amateur leagues. When he stepped up to the plate, the opposing teams's outfielders backed up to the fence because of his reputation as a big home run hitter.

Craig is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice Stahle Johnson; four children, Walter Craig "Walt" Jr., Wendy Lynn Horton, Tracy Michelle Willey (Todd), and Heidi Beth Coats (Ryan); nine grandchildren that he loved dearly, Thomas, Alexis, Kelsey, Connor, Mason, Jaxson, Cooper, Charlie and Max; Titus, his first great-grandchild was born this year; and siblings Claudia Burton, David, Mary Price, Ray, Linda Samuelson and Ronald. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Arvid Richard "Dick" Johnson, as well as his best friend Leonard Aoyagi. To honor Craig's wishes, there will be no formal funeral or memorial service. Friends and family have already begun to call and visit Alice, and she is grateful for the expressions of sympathy and love she continues to receive.
