Larry Lynn Porter

February 19, 1946 — March 28, 2023
Kaysville, Utah

On the evening of March 28, 2023, Larry “Lynn” Porter passed away surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend.  He was 77 years old.

He was born February 19, 1946, to Clifford Samuel Porter and Olive Madeline Smith Porter.  He grew up in Centerville and Bountiful.  He worked hard his whole life.  As a young boy he sold produce from the farm and had a paper route of 200 homes to deliver every morning before school.

He graduated from Bountiful High School where he met the love of his life, his sweetheart, Carolyn Sue Beames, they have been together since.  Everyone knew who Larry was at school due to his love of fast cars.

After high school he was called up to serve in the Navy. Upon his return, he married Carolyn on November 16, 1966. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized in 2000 and then solemnized in the Bountiful Temple in 2001.

They raised two wonderful sons, Brett Lynn and Ryan Jay. He loved his boys and would do most anything for them.  He loved his family and knew the meaning of hard work in which he instilled in both his sons by teaching them all he knew about construction, all things cars and anything else he knew would help them be well versed men.  He was a great role model on how to love and take care of their families and wives.   He adored Carolyn and was a loving and faithful husband for 56 years.  He took pride in providing for his family and spoiling Carolyn.   He loved his wife and even called her “sweetie” clear to the end.  He took the family on many trips and his wife to Hawaii.   He was funny, witty and we endearingly called him “the old man”.  He loved it and would say it all the time.  He loved his dogs and the many animals his boys brought home.

He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 29 years, retiring in 1995 at the age of 49.  He quickly moved into remodeling homes and taking care of his rental properties.  He always loved helping the neighbors with small and big projects.  He loved cars!!  Especially Camaros!  His 1969, which he bought as a newlywed and his 2010 were his favorites.  He loved to take everyone for rides. He loved to drive fast and as a young man, dragged State Street with Carolyn.   Most times, we would hold on and pray!  He also enjoyed watching NHRA drag racing.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding many callings, even before he was baptized.  He was active with the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Sunday School, and Young Men activities.   He oversaw cleaning the church and managed the honey plant for many years. He loved to go to the temple to perform sealings and baptisms.  He was never nervous about talking in groups or giving talks in church often without using notes.  He was a man of service.  He would help anyone, even canceling plans with his wife to assist someone in need.  He was generous with his time and money.  He loved to go home teaching and never missed a month in 20 years. He had the honor of doing work at the Oakland Temple remodel.   He loved his Heavenly Father deeply.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn and two sons, Brett (Paige) Porter and Ryan (Andrea) Porter and grandchildren Phillip, Kylie, Cason, Ethan, Zoe.  Great grandchildren Alexander and Ohsiira. His brothers Roger (Kathy) Porter and Ronald Ray (Jody) Porter. Sister-in-law, Nancy Porter, Sister-in-law, Linda Ashinhurst (Jack) and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Olive Porter, brother Clifford Lee Porter, sister Gay-Karlay Stickland, his father and mother-in-law, Wallace and Dorothy Beames. Brother-in-law, David Wallace Beames.

Special thanks to The Peaks at Clinton and A+ At Home Hospice for their extraordinary care.

Funeral Services and Viewings will be held at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main St, Bountiful, UT.   Viewing times will be Thursday, April 6th, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. and Friday, April 7th, 2023, from 9-9:45a.m.  Funeral Services will be Friday, April 7th, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Interment at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
